About Our Unit

This section of the website tells you all about the unit buildings that Amethyst have occupied.
After many years in our old unit at Lemsford Lane, we re-locating to a brand new unit in Bridge Road East at the end of June 2006.

The old unit was becoming really tired and old, and while there are those that would describe the Lemsford Lane unit as "homely", most of the cadets and staff would think of it more as cold and draughty !!
There are some views of the old Lemsford Lane unit for nostalgia purposes - sadly, the building has now been demolished and new homes have been built on the site, but the new development was named Amethyst Walk so carrying on some history for the area of it's Sea Cadets past.

The new unit is in Bridge Road East directly opposite B&Q with a large Main Deck and offices on two levels.
Known previously by Welwyn Garden City residents as the Trades & Labour Club, the building has had an extensive renovation and been partitioned into three areas with TS Amethyst occupying the corner section.

Uniquely, the unit staff have chosen to name all of the rooms in the building and each room has been numbered using the 1950s Numbering Convention so that the cadets only have to know which direction the bow of the "ship" is in to know where to go - at least this is the theory and this is yet to be proven ...... maps have been provided but it's still difficult to figure out where anything is, without detailed knowledge of the building !!
