Good start to the year January 2008
2008 has started with a big bang at Amethyst with many of the cadets being rated up.
Amethyst now boasts 6 Able Cadets, 1 Ordinary Cadet and 3 Cadets as well as a thriving Junior section - the race is now on amongst the Ables for the first one to take their Leading Cadets board.
The MCD have also been very busy and now boast a Cadet Corporal, a couple of MC1's and many MC recruits.
PO Nice joins the unit January 2008
Amethyst is pleased to welcome PO Carol Nice to the unit, joining from Herts & Ware unit.
PO Nice has already started to busy herself with the Stores and Administration, and Amethyst wishes her well in her new appointment.
CPO Wilmott retires October 2007
It was with the deepest regrets that CPO Terry Wilmott retired from the Sea Cadet Corp after many years of service.
Everyone at Amethyst wishes him the best of luck for the future, and we look forward to welcoming him onboard whenever he is passing by.
Trip to HMS Ark Royal 17th June 2007
A small group of staff and cadets took to the water again to visit the Flag-ship of the Royal Navy during it's visit to London as part of the commemoration of Falklands 25. We spent a wonderful hour exploring the displays laid on for us by the Royal Navy but most enjoyable was the view from the flight deck and the inside of the Merlin helicopter. It was also a good chance to meet fellow units too and everyone came back admitting that they had a good time.
Trip to HMS Belfast 12th to 14th January 2007
A sizeable group of the ships company and staff spent the weekend staying over on HMS Belfast moored down near Tower Bridge in London. We enjoyed the local sights on the South Bank, went to the London Boat Show and took trips on the river-boats.
We also forged new friendships with the City of London Sea Cadets unit based on HMS Belfast and look forward to seeing them again soon.
New Year Staff Appointments - January 2007
As Amethyst moves into 2007, a number of new appointments have been made within the staff, so that PO Hicks has become Training Officer and CI Hart has become Boats Officer. We wish them well with their appointments.
